But are you sure about what it means and encompasses ? Follow the guide ! Brandy comes from Dutch brandewijn, gebrande wijn or in English "burned wine". Brandy is a term that cover any spirit produced by distilling wine But by exetension it started to mean a little bit more than the strict original sense.
See the large familly of the spirits that may be named spirits at some point. On the left, all the spirits made from grape must, on the middle brandies stricto sensu and on the right other spirits like Eaux de vie sometimes called "fruit brandies". What can be confusing is that the word is sometimes used to design spirits which are made out of fruits, but not about wine.
