Dear Curious Readers from Berlin,
Rejoice, Craft Spirits Berlin is opening its door soon. And spiritsfully created a very thorough program!
The lectures and workshop series has a focus on one quality of crafts spirits over industrial spirits: transparency.
For example the question of added sugar is a burning topic among distillers. The newly funded association for sugar-free distillers will come and share their commitment as well as world renown rum expert Dirk Becker who focuses on rum and sweetness. With Friedrich Springhob from the magazine Kleinbrenner the idea is to remember the true origins of craft while with Werner Albrecht, the focus is on tracing back the history of spirits. Also, Bernd Schäfer will map the land of mainland Whiskies in post Brexit times.
Both the lectures and the workshops will be very hands on, a way to improve senses: Emmanuel Rosier, one of the best Sommeliers in the German speaking countries, will show how to nose and taste spirits. Kai Oliver Binder will explain how to spot the difference between natural and industrial aroma while Ludwig Schack will clarify the extent of the maceration techniques and their influences on spirits, to name a few..
The booming berlin bar scene is present with Nicolas Krüger from Bar Wagemut and his love declaration to the complexity of rum, with Filip Bochinski from Fabelei and his introduction to low sugar cocktail making and with Damien Guichard from Truffle Pig and his focus on a beverage which is making its great return in 2020: shrubs. Another talk, not to be missed is Beavis Bar’s Jon Cooper - who won last year Bar-to-Farm award will disclose how he started his 500+ craft spirit collection.
Last but not least, Craft Spirits Berlin introduces a new series of lectures in 2020: the spotlight series. It is dedicated to products presentation and will embark on a journey from the heart of Germany with Dirker Edelbrennerei, to Quebec with Distillerie du St. Laurent), Distillerie Circa, La Société secrète and the Distiller du Fjord via Japan with Ueno Gourmet and the Ayakane distillery and China with Mingriver Baijiu. We welcome David Suro from Siembra Spirits back to discuss the rebirth of Tequila and Jan Kreuzt from the newly created Berlin Distillery!
I hope you’ll be able to make it. It’s free with entrance ticket!
