ARE YOU CHECKING THE 101 REGULARLY? WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT SPIRITS IN SHORT, COMPACT AND COMPLETE CHEATSHEETS.
Dear Curious Readers,
Do you know why the 101 have started on that website? Do you know what 101 even means? Let's clarify a little the things below to allow you to make the best use of this site.
Let's start by the "101". What does it mean?
According to this website, it refers to:
"introductory something". The allusion is to a college course with the course code 101, which in the American system and probably others indicates an introductory course, often with no prerequisites."
In the Cambridge dictionnary, the definition is:
"showing the most basic knowledge about a subject"
This is why the titles of the longest articles are "spirits 101" --> the basic info for understanding what spirits are and the various steps any liquid has to go through to be named the ways it is.
Same for the subdivisions "Korn 101" or "Gin 101". Please find some of them below!
The idea of the 101, is to gather of the information you need to know to be able to apprehend a spirit properly. Gathering all the information in one place does not mean that it is superficial. On the contrary.
Another point to know about how those 101 are structured: they are all structured the same way, very much influenced by the WSET exam.
And how are they structured? In the following way:
HISTORY & GEOGRAPHY
LEGAL INFORMATION OR APPELATION
THE DIFFERENT STEPS
1. raw material
2. conversion (if needed)
5. maturation (if needed)
6. bottling, dilluting
